Hemkund Sahib

Set amidst towering snow-capped mountains and lying beside a lake of pristine blue water, the Sikh shrine of Sri Hemkund Sahib looks, even to the not-particularly-pious, a place of almost unbelievable beauty and peace. Hemkund at an elevation of 4329 mts. is the highest Gurudwara of Sikh community. Hem kund literally means ‘Lake of snow’. It is situated in the Chamoli district of Uttrakhand state. According to myths and legends, the tenth guru of Sikh’s Guru Govind Singh Ji meditated here for years. A temple dedicated to Laxman, brother of Rama is also located in the vicinity.

Valley of Flower:
While visiting Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara do visit Valley of Flower and Badrinath Dham. Valley of flower is situated in Bhyundar valley at an elevation of 3658 meter. Whereas the holy shrine of Badrinath is 25 Km from Govind Ghat.

How to Reach:
There is road connection to Govind Ghat from Rishikesh / Haridwar. From Govind Ghat there is 14 km uphill trek to Ghangaria. From Ghangaria 6 km uphill and steep trek leads to Hemkund Sahib. For valley of Flower there is 4 km trek from Ghangaria.
